Founded in 1904, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA) is the oldest and largest youth mentoring organization in the United States. In 2004, the organization served more than 225,000, in 5,000 communities across the country, through a network of 470 agencies.
The Butler County Family YMCA began formation of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program in Butler County in December 1993. In July 1994, the program was formally recognized as an “Agency in Formation” by BBBSA. The fledging agency quickly earned the status of Provisional Affiliate from BBBSA in January 1995. That same year the agency hired its first Program Director, held its first Bowl for Kids’ Sake event, and made its first “match”. In January 1998, the agency earned the status of Full Affiliate from BBBSA.
Today, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Butler County continues to be a program of the Butler County Family YMCA, is an agency of the United Way of Butler County, and a fully accredited affiliate of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
